Across the world, waste management has become one of the most critical environmental issues that needs to be addressed. From plastic pollution in oceans and on land and over-consumption due to the growth of the middle class across emerging markets to the current patterns across the developed world and rapid increase of waste generation, these factors have spawned an array of environmental issues, where not a single one overrides the other.
One of Visionscape Group’s core actions in 2019 is to amplify its efforts in addressing plastic waste in Europe and in emerging African markets, with an eye towards expanding the reach of its waste management solutions in Asia, the Middle East, and across the globe.
In 2019, Visionscape plans to increase and strengthen partnerships with governments and businesses, and support them in implementing policies on plastic waste management, allowing them to reach their immediate and long-term sustainability goals.
Africa – the second largest continent in the world, covering about one-fifth of the total land surface of Earth – is facing a waste crisis.
Many would argue that the surge of waste is a result of an exponential increase in population density, economic growth, and rapid urbanisation. Others would posit it is the lack of proper information on how waste can be managed from across the value chain
