At Visionscape, our Sustainability Policy establishes the Circular Economy concept as a core value and integrates it into company processes, administration, research and innovation, outreach and engagement, mirroring an ecosystem that leaves nothing wasted.

The paradigm shift in our strategy allows us to close the linear value chain with different specialized products and services that are socially acceptable, financially responsible and environmentally sound waste management planning as part of our long term sustainable growth.

Our sustainability approach to systems thinking represents a drive to reach cradle to cradle objective of customer idealization and the prerequisite to exist in the market at every step of the product/service life cycle (collection, diversion and disposal). Different divisions specialise in the different activities of the value chain, monitoring and reporting to make sure that resources will come back to the chain to close the loop.

Objective

The key objective of our sustainability strategy is to break the link between resource generation and economic growth, citing that resource efficiency and recovery are vital to a growing and healthy environment. Another area is product design (products being designed to support circular economy initiatives) and for recycled materials to be used as far as possible in the waste management value chain, using closed loop recycling and upcycling.

Target

Visionscape has an ambitious Circular Economy roadmap, which includes resource recovery targets to stimulate sustainability efforts towards a circular economy which will boost industry competitiveness, foster return on investment and generate new jobs.

The roadmap sets clear targets for resource diversion and establishes an ambitious cradle to cradle long-term path for waste management and recycling.

To ensure effective implementation, the resource recovery targets in the roadmap are accompanied by concrete measure to address risks on the ground along the different components of the value chain.

Our sustainability roadmap focus areas include strategies and initiatives to reduce waste and divert material from landfill. The initiatives include a mix of upstream activities that identify ways to keep materials out of the waste stream entirely and downstream activities that sustainably manage materials that are currently going to landfill.

Another critical strategy involves outreach and education related to creating a sustainable waste management future. The strategies also provide methodologies to measure the results of the products and services, facility and infrastructure improvements, and outreach and education opportunities. Strategy 1 – Products Services

We develop, enhance, and expand high quality products and services to provide for solid waste management needs while striving to reduce the amount of waste generated and disposed of at landfill.

Quality products and services are essential components to reducing waste. Visionscape will initiate and maintain a number of highly successful waste reduction, recycling, composting, conversion, and special waste products and services. In order to end dependence on landfilling in the long-term and thereby ensuring a sustainable waste management future.

Strategy 2 – Measuring Results

We use benchmarking, goal-setting, monitoring, and evaluation to measure the effectiveness of products and services, facilities and infrastructure, and outreach and education in order to strive for continuous improvement and encourage innovation.

Measurement is a key to success. It provides us with understanding of how effectively and efficiently programs and services, facilities and infrastructure, and outreach/education are meeting waste reduction objectives. A series of initiatives designed to integrate both evaluation and continuous improvement mechanisms are implemented for each focus area.

Strategy 3 – Facilities & Infrastructure

Incorporating and implementing sustainability practices and investing in advanced technology and innovative infrastructure in a fiscally, socially, and environmentally responsible manner.

An efficient waste diversion system is essential to implementing sustainability practices and meeting Visionscape’s resource recovery goal. In order to divert hundreds of thousands of tons of materials currently going to landfill each year, new infrastructure and facility improvements are being implemented to collect, process, and divert this material to beneficial uses. We identify opportunities for improvements of existing and proposed facilities and infrastructure.

Strategy 4 – Outreach and Education

Incorporating proactive and appropriate communication tools in order to engage and empower stakeholders and promote environmental sustainability.

Education and communication are critical elements of a successful endeavour to achieve a waste-free future. We focus on educating diverse communities with innovative and multi-lingual messaging. Additionally, we believe the implementation of sustainable waste practices is a collective effort and it is critical to educate and engage the business community, the waste industry, and other stakeholders.
